Etter at det var bygget 51 fly av den første modellen gikk de Havilland over til Model 2 med opptrekkbart understell, styrbart nesehjul og og forbedret ytelse. Produksjonen opphørte i 1963. Det ble bygget 149 Heron og det finnes fortsatt (i 2010) 36 fly lagret omkring.

The airplane operated on a flight from Dar Es Salaam International Airport (DAR) to Moroni-Prince Said Ibrahim In Airport (HAH).

Museet har en de Havilland DH 114 Heron 1B. Denne er malt i Braathens SAFEs farger og har registreringen LN-PSG. Dette er dog ikke den maskinen som Braathens SAFE opererte med. Flyet ble kjøpt av Fjellfly i 1972 med registrering LN-BFY, men selskapet gikk konkurs samme året.
