Nov 09, 2010 · A fantasy title to consider is the old SPI game Swords & Sorcery. It is essentially a classic hex-and-counter wargame with a fantasy theme. There’s also a «character game» which is an attempt to meld a roleplaying game with the boardgame. The game features a lot of humor, which turns some people off.

Twilight Imperium is legendary among sci-fi board game fans, and it has earned that status thanks to its complexity and challenge. Be prepared to spend some time at the board—Twilight Imperium games can last for four hours or longer—but expect to be rewarded with one of the best science fiction board game experiences of all time.
Warhammer 40K is a well established sci-fi/fantasy franchise of tabletop games, video games, and books which sprouted from a very successful tabletop miniature wargame produced by Games Workshop with the same name.
The more I imagined that kind of game, the more I realized that there are a lot of science fiction and fantasy series stretching back through the decades that could find new life as a video game

The game had both Sci-fi and fantasy mixed up together. I think that the main character was called tom or Tommy or possibly Joe. (not quite sure there) The setting was on a different planet and I remember that there were some aliens you could recruit in your party. Cant remember the game …
