The eXtensible Data Format (XDF) data format, now available as version 0.17, is being developed at GSFC’s Astronomical Data Center (ADC) in the course of an AISRP-funded (Applied Information System Research Program) project to bring XML applications to the astronomical data centers.
Extensible Data Format (XDF) [June 2003] «XDF is a common scientific data format based on XML and general mathematical principles that can be used throughout the scientific disciplines.
The Extensible Data Format (X) is an XML standard (specified as a DTD) developed by NASA, meant to be used throughout scientific disciplines. In many ways it is akin to XSIL, Extensible Scientific Interchange Language. NASA provides two XDF APIs, in Perl and in Java.
Talk on XDF presented Nov. 8, 2000 at the NASA Science Data Processing Workshop, Introducing XDF – The eXtensible Data Format. FITSML a Markup Languages that Inherit from XDF ( FITSML ) is an XML/XDF language rendition of the Flexible Image Transport System that is used primarily in astronomy.
XML language specifically for data description. The present lack of a common object model of data and data description has made it very difficult to develop tools useful to a wide audience. Cross-disciplinary search is nearly impossible with the current technology. 2. The eXtensible Data Format (XDF)
The eXtensible Data format is an XML-based language for describing and encapsulating scientific data. Its primary purpose is to be the mathematical and computer science kernel for other, more fully-featured, discipline-oriented formats.

XDF (extensible data format) is a simple extensible storage format for time series and associated data. An XDF file can contain any number of (multi-channel) streams, each of which comprises an XML-based header that specifies both format and Meta Data of the stream, as well as the actual data …
