K2 DarkSide Skis 2013: Big mountain skis that are this wide have never felt so maneuverable. With the K2 DarkSide Skis you have the confidence to send it big and know that you have unmatched stability in the tail for run outs.
The Powder Rocker starts just in front of the binding turning the tail into both a brake and an accelerator. Pressure the shovel of the K2 DarkSide to quickly and easily pivot the ski and scrub speed, or pressure the cambered tail for added power and acceleration. No wonder we are drawn to the DarkSide.
K2’s Powder rocker in this case combines 50 percent camber from about the toepiece aft with 50 percent rocker from there forwarda profile designed to give it plenty of smeary flotation in deep snow with a reassuringly stable feel in the tail for runouts and the occasional hard snow.
The K2 DarkSide Skis are built for all powder all the time. With a wood core and no metal reinforcement, it weighs in at just 2,290 grams, making it the ideal tool for shredding the biggest backcountry lines.
The DarkSide has K2’s Hybritech Sidewalls that have a vertical sidewall on the majority of the ski with a small amount of cap construction in both the tip and tail to give you great edge hold, and easy maneuverability without adding any extra weight to the ski.
Like all models in K2’s Backside Adventure series, the Darkside features holes in the tip and tail to accommodate pre-cut climbing skins (sold separately). At 128mm in the waist, it’s the group’s widest model, built for steep, deep north-facing couloirs (Get it? «Dark Side?»).
