The sound settings menu on PS4 has an option called «sound output (priority)» or something like that. The choices in that menu are: PCM, bitstream (Dolby) and bitstream (DTS). My receiver can output most other formats too, but the PS4 only lists Dolby Digital and DTS as options.
With the PS4 there are a number of different settings that need to be made to allow bitstream audio to be output from the console, both for games and video playback. Firslty, we must first configure the PS4 to output audio via HDMI, and ensure that the «Audio Format (Priority)» is set to «Bistream (Dolby)»
Everything is set to Bitstream (Dolby) and I ticked of the DTS box inside the output configurations. Tested everything with HDMI out and my PS4 connected directly to the Playbar. Funny thing: DTS to DD comversion works flawlessly on my PS3 with its opitcal out directly plugged into the Playbar.
Bitstream for gaming is limited to Dolby Digital or DTS on the PS4. Not lossless. So when set to BITSREAM you are actually not getting full HD sound. While lossess is actually better quality, some people can not hear the quality difference and actually prefer Dolby Digital because it kind of over samples everything more than it should.

First try PCM and listen if the sound is coming from all speakers in a game that has 5.1 audio. Then switch your sound in PS4 to DTS (Bitstream) and then set your home theater to DTS Re Encode. Listen for the differences and then decide which sounds better.

But its like it sends both from ps4 to audio receiver so then it decoding and fighting to play both digital and DTS at the same time. Also note that almost every update will reset this setting so your like, O that worked for a little awhile, but go back and uncheck one and voila, happy audio again!!
